Job summary

Virtasant is seeking a hands-on backend engineer for a fully remote, independent contractor role on our client's Development Team, building features across Agentic AI and backend services. You will design, develop, test, deploy, and support high‑quality code in Python and Java, with occasional frontend work when needed, and you will contribute to architecture and quality discussions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years backend-heavy software development experience with Java and Python.
• Extensive usage of Agentic AI.
• Solid experience in Java and Python, including data structures, relational databases, and SQL.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants as part of daily workflow.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP) and containers, caching, distributed systems.
• Experience with Microservices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support high-quality code.
• Build MCP servers, tool design, auth/OAuth, multi-tenant security, deployment.
• Build LLM agents with tool/function calling and multi-agent orchestration.
• Develop backend services in Python (AI/Agent) and Java (core platform).
• Use AI coding tools to improve productivity and code quality.
• Participate in code reviews and address technical debt.
• Break down tasks and deliver reliably.
• Collaborate with Product Management and QA to refine requirements.
