Job summary

GovPilot is seeking a technically adept Data Migration Engineer to lead AI-assisted data migrations for government software. You will profile legacy data sources, map transformations, and build reusable pipelines, ensuring accuracy and auditability.

The role emphasizes automation, tooling, and rapid iteration over hand-coding. The position requires 3+ years with relational databases, strong SQL, and proficiency in Python/PowerShell.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with relational databases and data imports.
• Strong SQL: write, debug, and optimize queries, and spot when AI-generated SQL is wrong.
• Ability to read and modify scripts (Python, PowerShell) that an AI generated.
• Daily, hands-on use of AI coding agents to build data workflows.
• Track record of automating work that used to be manual, whether a process, a report, or an import.
• Self-direction: owned projects with little supervision and delivered results.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends for go-lives.
• Care with sensitive government and resident data (PII), using approved tools only.

Responsibilities

• Own migrations end-to-end from intake through mapping, transformation, loading, and sign-off.
• Drive the work with AI: profile source databases, propose mappings, and generate scripts; review and own output.
• Build reusable AI-assisted import pipelines and scripts to reduce time for future migrations.
• Automate validation with reconciliation: ensure zero data loss and high accuracy.
• Push AI adoption forward and share effective approaches with the team.
• Identify and communicate data quality issues early to prevent go-live delays.
• Keep mapping logic, scripts, and logs auditable for traceability.
• Be ready for go-lives with evening/weekend availability when required.
