Job summary

Hawaiian Bros Island Grill is seeking a Controller to own the accounting engine behind rapid growth. This role leads the period close, daily treasury, franchise royalties, gift card economics, audit readiness, and equity/cap table workpapers across four entities.

Reporting to the CFO, you will build workflows, guide the accounting team, and push AI-assisted close processes while maintaining rigorous controls and documentation in a fast-moving, multi-location restaurant company.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with full close ownership.
• Experience managing external audits from planning to issuance.
• Experience leading and developing accounting teams.
• Strong multi-entity accounting experience including intercompany activity.
• Proficient ERP experience; NetSuite preferred.
• Experience with complex debt and equity and cap table management.
• Strong controls discipline and segregation of duties.
• Hands-on use of AI in real accounting workflows with proper review.
• Thrives in a fast-moving, high-growth organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the period close across multiple entities and our 13-period calendar.
• Oversee reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, intercompany activity, consolidations, and financial statements.
• Manage daily cash forecasting, treasury activity, banking relationships, and controls.
• Oversee weekly accounts payable and disbursements with proper segregation of duties.
• Manage accounting for franchise royalties, advertising funds, development fees, and gift card program.
• Own tax, compliance, audit, debt, equity, and cap table workpapers.
• Lead and develop the accounting team with clear ownership and cross-training.
• Own and improve AI-assisted accounting workflows with documentation and controls.
• Partner with CFO, executive leadership, auditors, banking partners, and franchise teams.
