Job summary

LatchBio seeks an AI Biologist to join the Microsocopy team as the scientific authority on ground truth and to design tasks and datasets behind AI benchmarks in cell biology, tissue, and disease. You will determine how expert reasoning is defined and ensure AI agents can distinguish true biology from artifacts in acquisition and segmentation.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in relevant field required.
• Senior hands-on imaging experience with thousands of samples.
• Direct experience with image segmentation tools listed.
• Deep expertise in at least one area and working fluency across others.
• Strong design, quantification, and statistics skills.
• AI-ready from day one with ability to spot scientifically unsound model reasoning.
• Bonus: EM, pathology, or pharmacology experience.

Responsibilities

• Define expert imaging reasoning and write gold-standard answers with defendable rationale.
• Design realistic scenarios across imaging workflow: sample prep, staining, acquisition, preprocessing, segmentation, quantification, interpretation.
• Curate image datasets across modalities (IF, confocal, live-cell, EM, histology).
• Build analysis pipelines in Python, including deep-learning segmentation, yielding verifiable ground truth.
• Partner with software engineers to implement new workflows.
