Job summary

61st Street Service Corporation is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist I to support ColumbiaDoctors under the Revenue Cycle program, primarily remote for residents of the Tri-State area. Occasional office visits may be required for training and meetings.

The role focuses on follow-up on unpaid accounts, appealing denials, and communicating with insurers and patients. Opportunity to grow via a Revenue Cycle Career Ladder.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months’ experience in physician billing or third-party payor environment.
• Strong customer service and patient-focused orientation.
• Ability to explain insurance benefits, exclusions and denials.
• Experience with Epic or other electronic billing systems preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis and procedure coding preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow up on open and unpaid accounts with insurance and third parties.
• Inquire about unpaid claims and appeal denied claims.
• Contact patients or guarantors as needed.
• Prepare and send communications to insurers and patients.
• Obtain claim status updates from insurers and patients.
• Document claim issues for review and escalate as needed.
• Perform charge corrections and updates to accounts.
• Update demographics and insurance information; bill new insurance as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as required.
