Job summary

Qualifications

• Must be native or near-native in Acateco (Jakaltek) and English.
• 2+ years professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, government preferred).
• Strong knowledge of Guatemalan Mayan communities and culture.
• Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality standards.
• U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time Acateco (Jakaltek) - English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
• Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and legal contexts.
• Follow USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and confidentiality standards.
• Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
• Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
