Job summary

South Texas College is seeking an Academic Coach within the Centers for Learning Excellence. You will design individualized student-centered plans, connect students with support services, and work with individuals and groups on academic learning.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and at least one year in an educational setting, plus strong communication, computer skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with access to remote work as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field required.
• At least one year experience working in an educational setting, required.
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assess students' metacognitive strengths and create individualized action plans.
• Assist students with integration of study strategy techniques with course content.
• Support students in establishing goals for higher levels of engagement with their own academic progress and success.
• Prepare workshops and materials to enhance student comprehension and supplement course assignments.
• Collaborate with student organizations, academic departments, and programs to deliver relevant educational support onsite and online.
• Direct students to institutional resources relevant to academic progress and career exploration.
• Maintains knowledge of the College's programs, policies, procedures, and academic standards.
• Keeps regular and accurate records using required software and related forms, and submits appropriate paperwork in a timely manner.
• Promotes and presents information about academic support services and resources at the Centers for Learning Excellence.
• Serves as a Centers for Learning Excellence liaison with faculty and staff as directed by supervisor.
• Participates in required departmental training, workshops, and meetings.
