Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team. This position offers pay of $24.50 - $49.00 per hour with compensation commensurate with experience.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, perform radiography, manage vital signs, administer medications, and place IV catheters.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients.
• Triage emergency cases and record vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert changes.
• Interpret blood pressure and vital signs; alert Veterinarian.
• Identify at-risk patients and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical dosing and administer medications.
• Place IV catheters and perform phlebotomy.
• Place feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers.
• Address client concerns with empathy.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team.

Pay: $24.50 - $49.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differentials for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50 Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
