Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is recruiting a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team. This position focuses on anesthesia, triage, digital radiography, and continuous patient monitoring in a fast-paced ER setting.

We offer a competitive hourly pay range of $24.50–$49.00, with eligible shift differentials for nights and weekends. Experience with VTS credentialing may qualify for additional compensation and career growth within Mars Veterinary

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency veterinary settings.
• Competency in anesthesia administration and monitoring.
• Proficient in phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
• Ability to triage emergencies and monitor vitals.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and assess vitals including HR, RR, temp, BP.
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Identify abnormal vitals and alert the veterinarian.
• Maintain IV catheters and venous access; assist with CPR when needed.
• Mentor and train co-workers as needed.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team.

Pay:

$24.50 - $49.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differentials for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50 Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
