Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join the Critical Care team. You will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, and perform digital radiography while maintaining strict monitoring of vital signs.

Responsibilities include fluid therapy, IV access, blood pressure interpretation, and mentoring junior staff. This role offers competitive shift differentials and opportunities for CE and career growth.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed veterinary technician with current credentials.
• Experience with anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery is required.
• Ability to triage emergency cases and monitor vitals.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Maintain knowledge of normal vital sign ranges and alert veterinarians to significant changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs; communicate changes.
• Identify patients at risk of arrest and initiate CPR.
• Perform phlebotomy and place IV catheters; manage medications and routes.
• Place feeding tubes and central lines as needed; mentor colleagues and trainees.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is adding a skilled & compassionate Veterinary Technician to our Emergency and Critical Care team.

Schedule:

3-12 hour shifts

Pay:

$27.00 - $49.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We Also Offer Competitive Shift Differentials For Eligible Hours Worked For Nights And Weekends. Shift Differentials Are Based On a 4-hour Minimum. For Example

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50 Shift Differential

As An Emergency Veterinary Technician, You Will

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for LVTs and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for LVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150/year. Full-time LVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
