Job summary

Maniilaq Association is seeking a Security Guard to safeguard patients, staff and visitors across facilities in Kotzebue, AK. You will monitor risks, enforce visiting rules, and support emergency procedures under hospital security policies.

Required: high school diploma, CPR/First Aid, crisis intervention certifications within set timelines, Alaska driver’s license, and strong interpersonal skills to manage diverse situations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; able to read/write logs and policies.
• Must obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR and First Aid within 6 months.
• IAHSS certification within 1 year of hire; Alaska driver’s license required within 3 months.
• Ability to relate well to patients, visitors and staff; manage aggressive situations.
• Good driving history suitable for insured Maniilaq vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Provide security to Maniilaq Health Center and Ferguson Building and monitor risks.
• Assist clinical staff, including patient one-on-one situations.
• Assist in transportation of COVID-19 positive cases.
• Access control and enforcing visiting regulations; lockdown designated doors.
• Investigate and document security incidents.
• Maintain fire watch and act as Fire Control team member.
• Respond to codes; follow Emergency Preparedness Plan and maintain log.
• Assist in morgue processes as needed.
• Escort patients to locations via air or land transport per policy.
• Understand and follow Security Program Policies and Procedures.
• Check visitors in/out of Ferguson Building when needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors, as outlined in Maniilaq Association policies and in the Hospital Security policies and procedures manual. No weapons of any kind will be allowed. It is expected that the guard will not leave the hospital grounds at any time while on duty, except to patrol quarter’s areas and/or other Maniilaq Association properties or provide patients transportation as required by policies. Reports directly to the Lead Security Guard.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides security to Maniilaq Health Center and Ferguson Building to monitor for conditions or situations, which pose a risk to the safety of people or property while carrying a radio and responding to radio calls.
• Provides assistance to clinical staff, including patient one-on-one situations.
• Assist in transportation of COVID-19 positive cases.
• Provides access to facilities and enforce visiting regulations, providing lockdown of designated doors per schedule.
• Investigates and documents security incidents.
• Maintains fire watch and acts as Fire Control team member.
• Responds to all CODES in MHC.Follows the Emergency Preparedness Plan. Maintains security log.
• Assist in the morgue process.
• Escort patients to other locations via air and/or land transport as required by policy.
• Must understand and follow Security Program Policies and Procedures.
• Checks visitors in/out of Ferguson Building, when needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent. Reading and writing skills appropriate for maintaining log of activities, writing reports and understanding policies and procedures. Must obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR, and First Aid certifications within 6 months of hire. International Association for Hospital Security and Safety certification within 1 year of hire. Ability to relate well to patients, visitors and staff, including managing aggressive patients/visitors, demonstrating sound judgement in risky situations and able to physically complete rounds as required. Must obtain an Alaska driver’s license within three (3) months of hire and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles.
