Job summary

Maniilaq Association in Kotzebue, Alaska, is seeking a Relief Security Guard to provide a safe atmosphere for patients, staff and visitors, following Maniilaq policies and hospital security procedures.

You will monitor the facility, control access, respond to radio calls and codes, assist with patient transport as required, and maintain security logs in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR, and First Aid certifications within 6 months of hire.
• IAHSS certification within 1 year of hire.
• Alaska driver's license within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides security to Maniilaq Health Center and Ferguson Building and monitors for risks.
• Assists clinical staff in patient one-on-one situations.
• Assists in transportation of COVID-19 positive cases.
• Controls access to facilities and enforces visiting regulations.
• Investigates and documents security incidents.
• Maintains fire watch and acts as Fire Control team member.
• Responds to all codes and follows the Emergency Preparedness Plan; maintains security log.
• Assists in the morgue process.
• Escorts patients to other locations via air or land transport as required.
• Checks visitors in/out of Ferguson Building when needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors, as outlined in Maniilaq Association policies and in the Hospital Security policies and procedures manual.

No weapons of any kind will be allowed.

It is expected that the guard will not leave the hospital grounds at any time while on duty, except to patrol quarter's areas and/or other Maniilaq Association properties or provide patients transportation as required by policies.

Reports directly to the Lead Security Guard.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides security to Maniilaq Health Center and Ferguson Building to monitor for conditions or situations, which pose a risk to the safety of people or property while carrying a radio and responding to radio calls.
2. Provides assistance to clinical staff, including patient one-on-one situations.
3. Assist in transportation of COVID-19 positive cases.
4. Provides access to facilities and enforce visiting regulations, providing lockdown of designated doors per schedule.
5. Investigates and documents security incidents.
6. Maintains fire watch and acts as Fire Control team member.
7. Responds to all CODES in MHC. Follows the Emergency Preparedness Plan. Maintains security log.
8. Assist in the morgue process.
9. Escort patients to other locations via air and/or land transport as required by policy.
10. Must understand and follow Security Program Policies and Procedures.
11. Checks visitors in/out of Ferguson Building, when needed.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent. Reading and writing skills appropriate for maintaining log of activities, writing reports and understanding policies and procedures.

Must obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR, and First Aid certifications within 6 months of hire. International Association for Hospital Security and Safety certification within 1 year of hire. Ability to relate well to patients, visitors and staff, including managing aggressive patients/visitors, demonstrating sound judgement in risky situations and able to physically complete rounds as required.

Must obtain an Alaska driver's license within three (3) months of hire and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles.
