Job summary

Mental Health Kokua (MHK) on Maui is seeking Relief Residential Assistants to support residents with daily living skills and recovery goals. This as-needed role involves mentoring, supervising, and assisting with meals, budgeting, and personal care while ensuring a safe environment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, CPR/First Aid/TB clearance, and strong communication skills. Flexibility to cover shifts and participate in activities is essential for building independence and recovery.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Coursework in psychology, social work, or human development; or experience in behavioral health or human services.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, emotional tolerance under stress, and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
• Certifications (required upon hire or annually): CPR, First Aid, TB Clearance.
• Other Requirements: Lift up to 25 lbs; pass background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Mentor residents to develop daily living skills and recovery goals.
• Teach cooking, budgeting, personal care, and household tasks.
• Maintain a safe environment, respond to emergencies, document incidents per policy.
• Monitor resident wellness and provide guidance during challenges.
• Oversee residents’ self-administration of medications as appropriate.
• Assist with shopping, cleaning, maintenance, and daily tasks.
• Plan and participate in recreational, vocational, and educational outings.
• Complete accurate progress notes and service plans.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and case managers to support residents.
• Be flexible to cover shifts as needed.
