Job summary

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Relief Cook to support daily Café and patient operations. You will prepare and serve food and beverages, follow recipes, ensure HACCP compliance, and provide friendly service in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Responsibilities include handling cash at POS, stocking displays, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. The role requires teamwork, adaptability, and independent coverage when needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to prepare and serve food and beverage items while following established recipes, portion controls, food safety practices, sanitation standards, and HACCP requirements.
• Ability to learn menu offerings, pricing, Café equipment, POS processes, and opening and closing procedures.
• Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to create a friendly, welcoming, and professional experience.
• Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently, including during periods of solo coverage, while also contributing positively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

You'll provide friendly, professional service while preparing and serving food and beverages, maintaining a clean and safe environment, processing customer transactions, and supporting the team wherever needed.What You'll DoProvide exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming environment and using AIDET communication standards to support a positive customer experience.Prepare and serve food and beverage items for Café guests, patient operations, and catered events in accordance with standardized recipes, portion controls, and established quality standards.Follow established food safety, sanitation, and HACCP requirements for receiving, preparing, storing, labeling, monitoring temperatures, and documenting food products.Develop and maintain knowledge of menu offerings and pricing while accurately processing point-of-sale transactions, including cash and electronic payments, refunds, and voids.Stock and merchandise food and beverage displays to maintain an attractive and fully stocked presentation while following product rotation, safe holding temperature and signage.Complete opening and closing responsibilities to ensure the Café is prepared and ready for daily service.Operate, clean, and maintain Café equipment according to established guidelines while using appropriate chemicals and personal protective equipment.Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and sanitary environment throughout Café workspaces, equipment, customer service areas, and storage areas.Collaborate with the main kitchen and other team members to maintain product availability, replenish inventory, complete advance preparation, and provide timely support for catered events.Address customer concerns promptly and professionally using appropriate service recovery practices, including HEART, and communicate concerns to supervisory staff as needed.Support coworkers and adjust to changing assignments and priorities to help maintain efficient operations and consistent service, including periods of independent or solo coverage.Demonstrate GVMH Behaviors of Excellence through professionalism, effective communication, teamwork, customer focus, and commitment to the organization and community.What You'll BringRequired QualificationsAbility to prepare and serve food and beverage items while following established recipes, portion controls, food safety practices, sanitation standards, and HACCP requirements.Ability to learn menu offerings, pricing, Café equipment, point-of-sale processes, and established opening and closing procedures.Ability to accurately handle cash, electronic payments, refunds, voids, and other point-of-sale transactions.Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to create a friendly, welcoming, and professional experience.Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.Ability to work independently, including during periods of solo coverage, while also contributing positively as part of a team.Flexibility to adjust responsibilities and priorities based on daily operational needs.Preferred QualitiesPrevious food service, Café, restaurant, hospitality, retail, or customer service experience.Experience with food preparation, point-of-sale systems, cash handling, stocking, merchandising, or catering.A dependable and service-focused approach with strong attention to cleanliness, organization, food quality, and customer satisfaction.What Success Looks LikeSuccess in this role means the Café and patient service operations have the food, ingredients, products, and supplies needed to provide consistent and efficient service.
