Job summary

Qualus Corporation in the United States seeks a Relay Field Technician II for our Field Engineering team. You will apply electrical theory to test procedures for client protection and control systems in substation environments.

Responsibilities include acceptance testing, maintenance of relays (electro-mechanical, solid state and microprocessor), pilot channel equipment, relay calibration, DFR/SER testing, and ensuring proper communications and safety at field sites.

Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Electrical Technology (AET) or equivalent training in system protection.
• Minimum 1 year experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
• Experience in handling volt-ohm-meter and working with hand tools.
• Experience reading One Line, AC & DC diagrams.
• Proficient computer skills and Android/iPhone app usage for data collection and cloud access.
• Ability to perform regular field work in varying environments and weather.
• Must lift at least 30 lbs and perform safety procedures.
• Valid driver’s license and legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Support acceptance testing and routine maintenance of substation power equipment and relaying/test equipment.
• Ensure communication circuits are connected and operating.
• Interpret design drawings to follow AC/DC circuits and wiring.
• Perform IED testing and end-to-end relay testing.
• Operate test sets to apply currents/voltages and coordinate tests.
• Troubleshoot anomalies in test results and inter-device communications.
• Perform site safety inspections.
• Manage documents, files, and backups using multiple software platforms.
• Apply test procedures for relay test equipment.
• Maintain substation awareness and safety consciousness.
