Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Relay Field Engineer to execute commissioning and testing of protection and control schemes for electric utility substations and plants. You will work with IEDs, SCADA, and related media, ensuring safe, reliable operation across diverse field environments.

The role requires a ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree and 5+ years in relay testing/commissioning, with strong documentation, site safety, and client communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• 5+ years’ experience in relay testing and commissioning in substations.
• Experience in reading One Line, AC & DC Elementary and Wiring diagrams.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading and writing).

Responsibilities

• Red-lines design documents throughout the drawing set and perform end-to-end testing.
• Perform IED testing, manually and with automated test sets (Doble 6150, Omicron, Manta).
• Identify risks associated with testing and commissioning those schemes and systems.
• Develop test plans, risk assessments, and practical protection & control system applications.
• Lead project tasks or provide technical leadership on defined-scope work.
• Perform weekly site safety inspections.
• Support project leadership approvals and company policies.
