Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking a detail-oriented professional to manage monthly reinsurance cessions and related accounting within a SOX-controlled environment. You will coordinate with Reinsurance Operations, Actuarial, Underwriting, IT, and Finance to ensure accurate reporting and timely closes.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 1 year of relevant experience, with strong Excel and Oracle/BI tooling skills. US-based, on-site position in Richmond, VA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a similar field required.
• 1+ years of relevant experience in insurance or reinsurance preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and data analysis capabilities.
• Experience with Oracle and reporting tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own the accuracy and completeness of monthly reinsurance cessions and bookings.
• Ensure timely accounting functions and complex reinsurance calculations.
• Prepare and upload general ledger and data warehouse entries; support close and reporting.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and SOX-compliant issue remediation.
• Assist internal and external audits and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
