Job summary

Markel Group seeks a detail-oriented finance professional to manage monthly reinsurance cessions and related accounting activities. You will handle system-generated and manual cessions, ensure timely month-end close, and support quarterly reporting with balance sheet reconciliations.

You’ll work across Reinsurance Operations, Finance, IT, and other teams to resolve issues, perform data analysis, and contribute to process improvements. US-based role in a dynamic, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field required.
• 1+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in the insurance and/or reinsurance industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own the accuracy and completeness of monthly reinsurance cessions, including system-generated and manually booked cessions.
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly and quarterly accounting functions, including cession analysis and complex manual reinsurance calculations.
• Prepare and upload general ledger and data warehouse entries, including adjusting journal entries, and support monthly general ledger close and reporting deliverables.
• Perform monthly reinsurance balance sheet account reconciliations, including identification and remediation of issues in SOX compliance.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting and variance analysis packages.
• Understand reinsurance treaty language pertaining to accounting and contractual requirements.
• Maintain effective SOX controls and adherence to department processes.
• Assist with internal and external audit reviews as needed.
• Collaborate with various functions to resolve issues and support business goals.
• Lead or assist with special projects, system enhancements, and ad hoc reporting.
• Identify and implement systematic process improvements.
