Job summary

Sheppard Pratt Careers is seeking a Direct Care Support Staff member at the Towson location to help clients learn and maintain independent living and social skills, with structured training routines and guided practice.

This part-time role requires flexibility for night shifts, weekend hours, and holidays; a high school diploma is required (BA/BS preferred for some programs) and English proficiency is essential; CPR/First Aid and other trainings may be required.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS in Human Service and/or related area preferred; 1–2 years of relevant student, volunteer or work experience.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English and knowledge of the patient population served.
• Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid, Infection Control, Food Safety and Handling, and Crisis Intervention/Suicidal Protocol trainings as required.
• Orientation period to learn methods, procedures, and policies; knowledge of patient population.
• Must have a valid state driver’s license with 3 or fewer points at hire.
• Some programs require vehicle access for client transport; vehicle insurance must name employee as insured driver.
• Ability to assist clients with daily tasks and to identify needs for rehabilitation goals and referrals.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts including day, evening and weekend hours and holidays.

Description

Position shift: Friday and Saturday 11pm - 7am

Responsibilities

• Works with clients to learn or regain skills for successful community living including independent living skills (shopping, cooking, cleaning, budgeting and transportation) and socialization (enhancing social and/or romantic relationships, recreational and leisure pursuits that contribute to community integration) utilizing deliberate and consistent skills training which typically includes staff demonstration, working side by side, facilitating groups, client practice/roleplaying and staff feedback, as well as prompting and cueing.
• Participates in the Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP) process by drafting, re-framing and finalizing IRPs in collaboration with the client.
• Monitors clients’ medications, ensuring compliance with medical regimen.
• Coordinates comprehensive care to assigned clients.

Requirements

• Work requires the ability to read, write, and speak English and working knowledge of specific patient population served, e.g., children and adolescents or adults with mental disorders.
• High school Diploma or equivalent required. BA/BS in Human Service and/or related area preferred. 1-2 years of relevant student, volunteer or work experience.
• Ability to obtain additional certifications/trainings as may be required by certain programs (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Infection Control, Food Safety and Handling, and Crisis Intervention/Suicidal Protocol).
• Work requires orientation period to obtain sufficient familiarity with behavioral rehabilitation methods, procedures and techniques, program policies and procedures, and specific patient population.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license with 3 or fewer points at time of hire.
• Certain programs and positions may require access to a vehicle during working hours for work related duties, including transporting clients as necessary. When access to a vehicle is required vehicle insurance must name the employee as an insured driver.
• The ability to physically assist clients with daily tasks.
• Ability to establish rapport and to assist client to identify his or her own needs (i.e., self-care skills, social skills, independent living skills, medication management, health-mental and somatic, entitlements, and vocational) to establish appropriate rehabilitation goals and to provide internal and/or community referrals when necessary.
• Must be able to work variety of shifts including day, evening and weekend hours and holidays.

Pay rate: $19.31 hourly
