Job summary

Sheppard Pratt is seeking a direct care Residential Counselor to provide compassionate, direct support in a crisis residential setting. You will foster a safe, therapeutic environment and help clients build independence and social skills through daily coaching and advocacy.

You will work under supervision with a focus on person-centered care, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to implement individualized plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Willingness to obtain additional certifications and trainings.
• Driver’s license with 3 points or less and access to insured vehicle.
• Availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Act as residential counselor, working one-on-one with clients to learn or regain skills for independent living.
• Ensure medication compliance, including safety, dosage, and cleanliness.
• Collaborate with a service team to develop and implement individual service plans.
• Provide transportation and attend clients’ medical appointments, offering advocacy and ensuring follow-up instructions are followed.

Job description

Shift: Sunday - Thursday, 2:30pm to 10:30pm Job Location Type: In Person

Crisis Residential Program services provide short-term intensive, round-the-clock, personalized support to help stabilize someone having a mental health crisis so they can avoid hospitalization. Our teams collaborate with providers who are already involved in an individual’s treatment and works to link clients to other services offered by Sheppard Pratt or other community providers.

What to expect.

This is a direct care opportunity to provide support for mental health treatment. You will provide a safe and therapeutic environment that encourages the overall independence and wellbeing of your clients.

Under general supervision, your responsibilities will include:

• Acting as a residential counselor as you work one-on-one with clients to learn or regain skills for successful community and independent living and socialization.
• Ensuring medication compliance which involves responsibility for safety, dosage, and cleanliness.
• Working as a part of a collaborative service team to develop and implement individual service plans.
• Providing transportation and attending clients’ medical appointments. You will provide advocacy services throughout the appointment and ensure that all follow-up instruction is documented and/or followed through on.

As you spend time with your clients, you will find yourself developing a rapport with your clients where you become part of their trusted support system. You will see their wins as your wins as they work their way through the program and cheer them on as they progress in their recovery.

** All direct care staff will be thoroughly trained to provide all services and should expect supportive and ever-present mentorship from senior staff members as they perform the requested duties.

The pay rate for this position is $19.05 hourly.
