Role and Responsibilities

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients with injuries or disease as directed by the Physical Therapist. The PTA works closely with the Physical Therapist and patients to restore, maintain, and promote the patient’s overall fitness and health. The PTA may be required to assess and give input to the Physical Therapist to determine the patient’s ability to be independent and reintegrate into the community or workplace after injury or illness, or determine the need for placement in a SNF/Rehab Unit. The PTA must communicate changes in the patient’s condition to the Physical Therapist, appropriately document the treatments, their purpose, and the patient’s progress toward established goals/outcomes.

What you will do in this role:

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patient populations served in the department.
• Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, evaluate, and document care in coordination with the health care team across the continuum.
• Assess patients’ and families’ ability to learn and incorporate teaching throughout hospitalization and in preparation for discharge.
• Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting the rights and dignity of all patients.

Qualifications

• State of Tennessee Physical Therapist Assistant License Required.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited PTA program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, current.
• Obtained/maintained within timeframes required by hospital policy.
