Job description

Serving customers since 2012, Atlantic Energy is licensed to provide competitive electricity and natural gas service to residential and commercial customers across eleven deregulated states covering over 50 utilities. We're committed to delivering competitive energy plans, dependable customer service, and operating with integrity in a highly regulated industry.

Why You’ll Enjoy This Role:

Our Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance team works across the business to solve complex problems, reduce risk, and build practical processes that support a growing regulated energy company. If you enjoy turning complicated requirements into clear action, improving how work gets done, and partnering with teams across the business, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

As a Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you'll own key compliance processes within an assigned portfolio of markets while cross-training across the broader team. Your work will span regulatory reporting, complaint responses, and compliance audit testing. You'll help ensure required filings and responses are accurate and on time, sales and customer processes are operating as expected, and the team has reliable documentation and backup coverage across jurisdictions.

  • Serve as the primary compliance owner for assigned states and develop practical familiarity with recurring reporting obligations, complaint processes, customer requirements, and internal workflows in those markets.
  • Prepare recurring regulatory reports and filings, validate data for completeness and consistency, coordinate with internal data owners to resolve discrepancies, and maintain proof of timely submission.
  • Own assigned regulatory complaint investigations from intake through submission, coordinating with Customer Service, Billing, Operations, Sales, Pricing, Technology, and other teams to gather facts and supporting documentation.
  • Draft accurate, well-supported, and persuasive complaint responses for review and submission to Public Utility Commissions and other regulatory agencies.
  • Identify opportunities to resolve customer issues before formal responses are submitted and escape complaint trends or recurring process concerns for further analysis.
  • Perform assigned compliance audit testing across customer journeys, contracts, customer communications, enrollment channels, billing records, websites, regulatory postings, and other regulated processes; document findings and elevate identified exceptions for further analysis and remediation.
  • Maintain filing and complaint calendars and coordinate workload with other Specialists so critical responsibilities have designated primary and backup coverage.
  • Maintain and improve filing instructions, complaint resources, audit checklists, templates, standard operating procedures, and supporting documentation for assigned markets.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize or automate recurring reporting, tracking, evidence collection, and other compliance processes.
  • Assist with implementation testing, remediation verification, regulatory projects, and other compliance initiatives as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • Written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and strong follow-through.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills with the ability to identify inconsistencies in documents, data, and customer records.
  • Ability to manage multiple recurring and externally imposed deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfort working with large amounts of data and following detailed filing, complaint, and audit procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments and cross-training with other members of the team.
  • Experience preparing regulatory filings, complaint responses, insurance claims, legal correspondence, licensing documentation, audit workpapers, or similar written submissions is preferred.
  • Experience in retail energy, utilities, compliance, legal operations, insurance, banking, healthcare, or another regulated industry is a plus.

Success in this role means assigned regulatory reports are accurate and on time, complaint responses are thoughtful and well-supported, audit testing consistently identifies and documents exceptions, market knowledge deepens over time, and critical compliance work has reliable primary and backup coverage.
