Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Software Test Engineer to verify regulatory requirements across multiple vehicle programs, ensuring test methods meet MVSS regulations and safety standards. You will design test cases, develop automation, and collaborate with Regulatory Integration Engineers to certify vehicles for saleable intent.

The role involves bench and vehicle testing at Milford and Warren sites, using Jira and PRTS for tracking, and mentoring junior engineers as part of a hybrid work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field.
  • 4-6 years of experience in Electrical/Infotainment Systems.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skills - Able to manage multiple projects across multiple programs.
  • Able to work within a team of engineers and communicate issues and testing results effectively
  • Ability to act as a single voice for bench/vehicle level testing for assigned regulations.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of CAN based communication and tools.
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bench and vehicle level testing at Milford and Warren sites.
  • Plan and execute test pertaining to given regulation to meet vehicle program timing.
  • Develop test methods and models to be able to test critical components within the system.
  • Automate test scripts and work with HIL setups to execute test procedures in a closed loop model environment.
  • Capture and analyze data to troubleshoot issues.
  • Work within Jira and PRTS to execute work tickets and create issue documentation.
  • Generate and approve test evaluation reports.
  • Schedule test properties.
  • Analyze and interpret requirements.
  • Build archives and flash program vehicle software components.
  • Work with test fixtures and tools to setup test environment.
  • Mentor new engineers
  • Travel as required

The Role

The Software Test Engineer is responsible for testing regulatory requirements to ensure that the system under test is designed and functioning per regulation. The Software Test Engineer will be responsible for testing on various vehicle programs where these regulations are present. Regulations include MVSS 101, 102,114, 111, 126, 135, 138, 208, and several other regional regulations. The Software Test Engineer will work closely with the Regulatory Integration Engineer, and Regulatory Compliance Owners to understand the given requirements, create test cases, and execute test plans and methods to certify the intended vehicles for saleable intent.
