Job summary

Sterling Engineering in Batavia, IL is seeking an experienced Compliance Leader to own regulatory requirements across multiple branded product lines.

You will serve as the internal expert on NSF product certifications, EPA-regulated products, and U.S. packaging EPR compliance, coordinating with Finance and other teams to ensure timely, accurate reporting and alignment with strategic product goals.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years in product compliance or regulatory affairs within a commercial product manufacturing environment.
• Direct, hands-on experience with NSF certifications, EPA compliance, and U.S. EPR reporting; all three are required.
• Experience managing compliance for a variety of products, rather than a single product line.
• Ability to interpret legislation, make sound judgments, and influence teams without needing extensive direction.
• Experience working with outside legal counsel; plastics experience is a plus.

• Oversee compliance for EPA-regulated products.
• Maintain packaging data and coordinate annual EPR reporting for applicable states, working with Finance and other teams.
• Manage patent filings and ongoing intellectual property maintenance with outside law firms.
• Support product requirements involving EU exports, plastics, and California Proposition 65.
• Read new regulations, assess their impact, and give teams clear actions to take.
• Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing, Product Development, and external consultants.

What we’re looking for

• 8–10+ years in product compliance, regulatory affairs, or quality within a commercial product manufacturing environment.
