Job summary

State of Wisconsin is seeking an Attorney in the Division of Legal Services and Compliance (DSLSC) to handle high-volume litigation matters and investigations, primarily supporting the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board and related boards.

The role requires Wisconsin licensure, strong litigation and legal research skills, and the ability to negotiate resolutions or pursue formal actions as needed. Telework options may be available depending on position requirements.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Wisconsin at time of application deadline.
• Experience with litigation (criminal, civil, administrative, or other).
• Experience conducting legal research and making determinations based on research.
• Experience providing legal advice and interpretations to clients (preferred).
• Experience drafting litigation documents (findings of fact, conclusions of law, proposed decisions, pleadings, motions, briefs).
• Experience working with medical and related professions (optional).

Responsibilities

• Manage a high-volume caseload.
• Support the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board and affiliated Boards by investigating and resolving complaints against licensed professionals.
• Negotiate stipulated resolutions or formal orders with respondents or their attorneys.
• Review informal complaints to determine jurisdiction and scope of investigations.
• Lead investigations to ensure timely, efficient, and fiscally responsible processes.
• Prepare pleadings, affidavits, motions, briefs, memoranda, and correspondence for administrative proceedings.
• Represent the Division of Legal Services and Compliance in contested proceedings.
