The incumbent may advance to a higher grade within the classification series, based on satisfactory work performance. Progressive grade levels include:

Main Purpose of Job
As a Project Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for overall project management from cradle to grave of the Department’s water quality projects within a particular geographic region in Maryland. These projects involve upgrading wastewater treatment plants with enhanced nutrient removal technology, which is essential to assist Maryland meet its commitments under the Chesapeake Bay 2014 Agreement and Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan. In addition, the incumbent will be assigned other water quality capital projects, including projects that involve drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, flood hazard management, and stream restoration. The incumbent in this position will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you maintain an out-of-state driving license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment. Individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record in order to drive a State vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following: An Engineering Degree(s) in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental; An Engineering-In-Training Certificate (optional). It is also preferred that the selected candidate is proficient in Microsoft Office.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
