Job summary

Cypress HCM is assisting a chemical manufacturing client in Minnesota to recruit an entry-level Regulatory Affairs Specialist. You will support regulatory compliance, including SDS creation and labeling, under guidance from senior staff.

You will gather data, assist with regulatory reviews, maintain records, and collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and Marketing to ensure product information meets requirements. This contract role pays $30-$35 per hour.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, regulatory affairs, or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution required.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience within chemical manufacturing or related industries (including internship or co-op experience).
• Experience with chemicals, formulations, SDS, hazard communication, or regulatory requirements.
• Strong research, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Job description

A chemical manufacturing client is looking to hire an entry level Regulatory Affairs Specialist to join their team! This person will support all chemical regulatory compliance activities. This position works under the direction of experienced regulatory, technical, quality, or business leadership to help ensure that chemical products, raw materials, Safety Data Sheets, labels, and regulatory documentation meet applicable requirements.

What You'll Do

• Create, update, and maintain Safety Data Sheets in accordance with established procedures and appropriate technical oversight.
• Gather formulation, raw material, hazard, and physical property information needed to prepare SDSs.
• Ensure SDSs contain accurate product and organizational information.
• Support hazard classification and regulatory reviews.
• Maintain SDS revision records and document control.
• Identify when formulation, raw material, or regulatory changes may require an SDS update.
• Respond to routine internal and customer requests for SDSs.
• Escalate complex hazard classification or regulatory questions to appropriate technical resources.
• Prepare and maintain chemical product labels using established requirements.
• Ensure required hazard communication information is included on labels.
• Support review of pictograms, signal words, hazard statements, precautionary statements, and other required information.
• Update labels when formulations, hazard classifications, or regulatory requirements change.
• Work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Marketing, and other stakeholders to obtain accurate product information.
• Escalate unusual or complex labeling requirements for review.
• Develop working knowledge of chemical regulatory requirements applicable to products and raw materials.
• Research regulatory requirements in collaboration with other team members.
• Maintain regulatory databases, inventories, and compliance records.
• Support regulatory assessments for new raw materials and products.
• Assist with regulatory documentation and submissions as assigned.
• Participate in reviews of new raw materials, formulations, products, packaging, and other changes that may affect regulatory documentation or compliance requirements.
• Support the collection and organization of information required for international chemical compliance.
• Research country-specific regulatory requirements.
• Assist in determining whether products and raw materials meet applicable inventory and notification requirements.
• Maintain regulatory records for products sold internationally.
• Escalate complex international regulatory questions and potential market-access issues.
• Follow established procedures for protecting confidential formulation, raw material, manufacturing, and customer information.
• Properly handle confidential information used in SDSs, labels, regulatory documentation, and customer communications.
• Recognize when information may be confidential and seek guidance before disclosure.
• Maintain appropriate controls over regulatory records and documentation.
• Monitor assigned regulatory information and communicate changes that may affect products or operations.
• Develop the ability to recognize potential regulatory risks
• Escalate potential compliance risks promptly.
• Assist with researching potential solutions and mitigation actions.
• Develop an understanding of how regulatory requirements can affect products, customers, manufacturing processes, and markets
• Work with Quality to maintain accurate controlled regulatory documentation.
• Work with Manufacturing when product or process changes may affect regulatory compliance.
• Support Purchasing with raw material regulatory information.
• Provide Sales and Customer Service with routine regulatory documentation and information.
• Respond professionally and accurately to customer regulatory requests.
• Participate in new product development and change-management activities as assigned.
• Follow applicable document-control, record-retention, data integrity, confidentiality, and change-management procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve regulatory processes, documentation, and data accuracy

Must Haves

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, regulatory affairs, or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution required.

• Experience with chemicals, formulations, SDS, hazard communication, or regulatory requirements.

• Ability to translate complex regulatory and compliance information into practical, appropriately documented actions, recommendations, or escalations.

This contract role is paying $30-35 an hour - flexible depending on experience, education, etc.
