Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL seeks a Registration Specialist I to support the patient access workflow with emphasis on accurate financial clearance and regulatory compliance at admission. You will manage high-volume queues and communicate transparently with patients about estimates and payments.

The ideal candidate has a HS diploma, 1–2 years in a fast-paced environment, and experience with Epic and MS Office. This role is full-time, on-site with a 8:30 AM–5:00 PM schedule.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: 1–2 years in a high-volume clinical, financial, or service-intensive environment.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Epic and intermediate Microsoft Office.
• Critical Competencies: Analytical ability, communication, accuracy, independence.

Responsibilities

• Revenue Integrity & Work Queue Management: monitors and resolves time-sensitive electronic work queues and minimizes front-end denials.
• Regulatory Compliance & No Surprises Act: adheres to CMS guidelines, EMTALA, and The Joint Commission; prepares Good Faith Estimates for uninsured patients.
• Comprehensive Financial Clearance: verifies demographics, financial data, insurance, and COB; coordinates authorizations and NOA payments.
• Data Integrity: maintains accurate EHR lookups and ensures proper documentation and indexing.
• Point-of-Service Financial Counseling: discusses balances and payment arrangements with patients.
• Cross-functional integration: supports Rush system-wide Patient Access across campuses and sites.
• System Proficiency: maintains Epic registration knowledge and participates in training.
