Job summary

Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) in Fort Wayne, IN seeks a Veterinary Technician, Critical Care for ICU duties in a high‑level specialty hospital setting. This full‑time role features rotating shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and some holidays, with a weekend differential.

You will collaborate with veterinarians to monitor critically ill patients, perform blood draws and diagnostics, administer medications, and participate in CPR.

Qualifications

  • LVT, CVT, or RVT license required.
  • Foundational veterinary knowledge: restraint, triage, imaging, lab skills, venipuncture.
  • Fluent English and strong teamwork skills.

  • Safely restrain patients for exams and procedures while ensuring comfort and safety.

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

Schedule: Full Time | 1st Shift | Rotating Schedule 4 Ten Hour Shifts (6am-4pm) & 3 Twelve Hour Shifts (6am-6pm) | Includes Every Other Weekend | Some Holidays Required

Compensation: $21-26/hr, DependentOnExperience | Higher Wages Available for VTS-Credentialed Technicians | Weekend Shift Differential $2.00/hr

Hiring Bonus: $1500 for credential RVT candidates

In Your Day-To-Day, You Will:
  • Partner closely with veterinarians to provide exceptional care for ICU patients with complex and specialized medical needs.
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures while prioritizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Deliver advanced nursing care to hospitalized and critically ill patients, monitoring their condition and responding to changes.
  • Perform blood draws, collect diagnostic samples, and assist with laboratory testing as needed.
  • Accurately administer medications and treatments following hospital protocols and veterinarian instructions.
  • Participate in advanced CPR efforts and maintain readiness to respond during medical emergencies.
  • Communicate with clients professionally, providing patient updates, discharge instructions, and education to support ongoing care at home.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and the hospital team to deliver compassionate, high-quality care in a fast-paced specialty environment.
What You Bring:
  • Veterinary Technician License (LVT, CVT, or RVT) is required
  • Foundational veterinary knowledge, including patient restraint, triage, imaging, laboratory skills, and venipuncture.
  • Strong communicationand teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to stay calm and organized under pressure.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with clients in a manner that supportsNIVESmission toprovide the highest quality veterinary specialty and emergency medicine for small animals.
  • Work with fellow team members tomaintaina productive,positiveand respectful environment. All technical staff, regardless of the level of experience, must be able to stand, bend, lift, and/or kneel for the duration of a shift (12 hours), and lift a minimum oftwenty fivepounds.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) arerequiredfor the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
