Job summary

Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Veterinary Technician in Oncology to join our specialty team. This full-time, first-shift role supports board-certified oncologists in delivering life-saving treatments and progressive veterinary care for small animals.

Experience with chemotherapy safety, imaging, anesthesia support, and patient records is essential. Competitive wages, benefits, and opportunities for credentialing are provided.

Qualifications

  • Veterinary Technician License (LVT, CVT, or RVT) required.
  • Foundational veterinary knowledge: restraints, imaging, lab skills, venipuncture.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Board-Certified Oncologists to manage complex cases and administer treatments.
  • Follow safety protocols for chemotherapy administration.
  • Set up chemotherapy procedures and perform administration.
  • Assist imaging and sedation for minor procedures.
  • Retrieve and prepare medical records before patient visits.
  • Gather complete medical history and assist with oncologist recommendations.
  • Perform venipuncture for blood work and carry out treatment orders.
  • Complete estimates, basic record keeping, and update patient charges.
  • Other duties as needed.

In yourday-to-day, you will:

  • Understand the safety protocols for safe administration of chemotherapy.

  • Set up chemotherapyprocedures, andperform chemotherapy administration.

  • Assistin facilitation of imaging and sedation for minor medical procedures.

  • Retrieve and prepare medical records in advance of patient visits.

  • Acquirecomplete medical history andassistwith treatment recommendations provided by Oncologist.

  • Perform all types of venipuncture for all types of blood work and carry out treatment orders to patients.

  • Complete estimates, basic record keeping, and update patient charges

  • Other duties as needed

What You Bring:
  • Veterinary Technician License (LVT, CVT, or RVT) isrequired

  • Foundational veterinary knowledge, including patient restraint, triage, imaging, laboratory skills, and venipuncture.

  • Strong communicationand teamwork skills.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to stay calm and organized under pressure.

  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with clients in a manner that supportsNIVESmission toprovide the highest quality veterinary specialty and emergency medicine for small animals.

  • Work with fellow team members tomaintaina productive,positiveand respectful environment. All technical staff, regardless of the level of experience, must be able to stand, bend, lift, and/or kneel for the duration of a shift (12 hours), and lift a minimum oftwenty fivepounds.

  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) arerequiredfor the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
