Job summary

Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Veterinary Technician for the Critical Care unit.

You will assist veterinarians in delivering advanced nursing care to ICU patients with complex needs, including monitoring and responding to changes in condition.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Veterinary Technician license (LVT, CVT or RVT).
  • Strong ICU nursing and critical care knowledge for small animals.
  • Foundational skills in restraint, diagnostics, imaging, venipuncture.
  • Fluent English (speaking & reading) required; multilingual a plus.

  • Deliver ICU care for critically ill patients in a fast-paced specialty hospital.
  • Restrain patients safely during exams and procedures with patient comfort as priority.

Location: Fort Wayne, IN


Schedule: Full Time | 2nd Shift | Rotating Schedule of 4 10-hour shifts and 3 12-hour shifts | Includes Every Other Weekend | Some Holidays Required


Compensation: $21-26/hr, DependentOnExperience | Higher Wages Available for VTS-Credentialed Technicians | Weekend Shift Differential $1.50/hr

In Your Day-To-Day, You Will:


  • Work closely with veterinarians to deliver exceptional care to ICU patients with complex and specialized medical needs.

  • Safely restrain patients during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures, always keeping patient comfort and safety a priority.

  • Provide advanced nursing care for hospitalized and critically ill patients, closely monitoring their condition and responding to any changes.

  • Draw blood, collect diagnostic samples, and support laboratory testing as needed.

  • Administer medications and treatments accurately in accordance with hospital protocols and veterinarian instructions.

  • Assist with advanced CPR efforts and remain prepared to respond to medical emergencies.

  • Communicate professionally with clients by providing patient updates, discharge instructions, and education to help support continued care at home.

  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians and the hospital team to provide compassionate, high-quality care within a fast‑paced specialty environment.


What You Bring:


  • Veterinary Technician License (LVT, CVT, or RVT) is required

  • Foundational veterinary knowledge, including patient restraint, triage, imaging, laboratory skills, and venipuncture.

  • Strong communicationand teamwork skills.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to stay calm and organized under pressure.

  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with clients in a manner that supports NIVES mission to provide the highest quality veterinary specialty and emergency medicine for small animals.

  • Work with fellow team members to maintain a productive, positive, and respectful environment. All technical staff, regardless of the level of experience, must be able to stand, bend, lift, and/or kneel for the duration of a shift (12 hours), and lift a minimum of twenty five pounds.

  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
