Job summary

Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County in San Marcos, CA seeks an experienced Emergency and Critical Care Registered Veterinary Technician. This full-time role offers three 12-hour shifts per week with a pay range of $32–$42/hour for RVTs and an added $2,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Active California RVT license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Minimum 2 years in emergency/critical care or specialty veterinary medicine preferred.
• Proficiency in triage, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, drug calculations and anesthesia recovery.

Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced nursing care for emergency and critically ill patients.
• Triage emergency patients and communicate changes to the medical team.
• Collaborate with Emergency Doctors and Critical Care Specialists on assessments and treatments.
• Obtain/process laboratory samples and assist with imaging.
• Calculate and administer medications, including CRIs.
• Monitor and recover patients under sedation and anesthesia.
• Maintain accurate medical records and client communication.

Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Critical Care team. Work alongside Emergency Doctors, Critical Care Specialists, and a multidisciplinary specialty team while providing advanced nursing care for emergency and critically ill patients.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Deliver advanced nursing care for emergency and critically ill patients.
• Triage emergency patients and communicate changes in condition to the medical team.
• Partner with Emergency Doctors and Critical Care Specialists on assessments, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
• Obtain and process laboratory samples and assist with diagnostic imaging.
• Calculate and administer medications, including continuous rate infusions.
• Monitor and recover patients undergoing sedation and anesthesia.
• Support high-acuity patients receiving advanced therapies
• Maintain accurate medical records and provide compassionate client communication.
• Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.

What You Bring

• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• At least two years of veterinary technician experience in emergency, critical care, or specialty medicine preferred.
• Proficiency with triage, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, drug calculations, medication administration, patient monitoring, and anesthesia recovery.
• Ability to recognize and communicate changes in patient condition.
• Strong critical-thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely restrain patients.
