Job Description

We are seeking experienced Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) to join our team at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. This is a 1+ year W2 Contract opportunity. This role involves providing exceptional respiratory care to Veterans in inpatient settings, utilizing advanced respiratory techniques and equipment, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer respiratory treatments, including bronchodilators, steroids, nebulizer treatments, and IPPB.
  • Perform intubations and assist with procedures such as bronchoscopies, thoracentesis, and chest tube placement.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical ventilators and portable CPAP/Bi-level machines.
  • Conduct and interpret arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Provide patient and family education on respiratory treatments and equipment use.
  • Perform Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), spirometry, and respond to hospital codes.
  • Document patient assessments and treatments electronically using the VISTA computer system.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Adhere to all VALBHS policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards.
Requirements
  • Licensure: Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) with an active license.
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with mechanical ventilators, ABG analysis, and electronic medical records (VISTA system experience preferred).
Schedule:
  • Work Schedule: 40 hours per week with 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts, including day, night, evening, weekend, and holiday rotations.
Required Documents for Submission:
  • Updated Resume.
  • Current RRT License.
  • ACLS Certification.
