Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Respiratory Therapist II to provide a range of therapies for patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction, including ventilation support and oxygen therapy. Emphasizes strong assessment skills and safe patient care in acute settings.

The PRN, on-site role at CHS - Pulmonary Function Testing Lab requires SC-registered RRT, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and at least 1 year of acute respiratory therapy experience.

Qualifications

• Education: NRBC approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• Associate degree in Respiratory Care from a CoARC accredited program required.
• Experience: 1 year of acute respiratory therapy.
• Licensure: RRT by NBRC, SC Respiratory Care License.
• BLS required; ACLS, PALS, NRP required; AARC membership preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in diagnosis, treatment and management of pulmonary disorders.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood and breath specimens for gas levels.
• Measure lung capacity to assess function.
• Administer prescribed treatments and oversee respiratory care therapies.

Job Description Summary

The Respiratory Therapist II reports to the Therapy Manager. The Respiratory Therapist II provides a variety of respiratory therapy modalities to patients with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, respiratory treatments, and oxygen and specialty gases. The Therapist II possesses extensive patient assessment skills and performs at a high level in emergency situations.

Job Description

Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function. Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing. Assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians.

Additional Job Description

Education: Graduate of an NRBC approved Respiratory Therapy program. Associate degree in Respiratory Care from a CoARC accredited program required. Experience: A minimum of 1 year of acute respiratory therapy experience required. Licensure/Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), South Carolina Respiratory Care License. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. ACLS required (Adult), PALS and NRP required (Pediatrics), AARC membership preferred.
