Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Respiratory Therapist II to provide a range of respiratory therapies including mechanical ventilation, oxygen, and specialty gases. You will perform thorough patient assessments and respond effectively in emergencies.

Qualifications include an NBRC-registered RRT, SC license, and current BLS; ACLS, PALS, and NRP are required. 1 year of acute care experience preferred. This is a PRN role with 16 hours weekly in the CHS Pulmonary Function Testing Lab.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• Associate degree in Respiratory Care from a CoARC-accredited program required.
• 1 year of acute respiratory therapy experience preferred.
• Licensed as RRT by NBRC and SC Respiratory Care License.
• Current AHA BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, NRP required; AARC membership preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in diagnosis, treatment, and management of pulmonary disorders.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for gas levels.
• Measure lung capacity to assess function.
• Administer physician-prescribed treatments for breathing abnormalities.
• Oversee respiratory care treatments and supervise therapists and technicians.

Job Description Summary

The Respiratory Therapist II reports to the Therapy Manager. The Respiratory Therapist II provides a variety of respiratory therapy modalities to patients with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, respiratory treatments, and oxygen and specialty gases. The Therapist II possesses extensive patient assessment skills and performs at a high level in emergency situations.

Job Description

Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function. Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing. Assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians.

Additional Job Description

Education: Graduate of an NRBC approved Respiratory Therapy program. Associate degree in Respiratory Care from a CoARC accredited program required. Experience: A minimum of 1 year of acute respiratory therapy experience required. Licensure/Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), South Carolina Respiratory Care License. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. ACLS required (Adult), PALS and NRP required (Pediatrics), AARC membership preferred.
