Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and explain procedures
  • Review clinical data from medical records and patient interviews
  • Select testing modalities based on gathered information
  • Operate polysomnographic equipment and manually control equipment to obtain requested waveforms
  • Distinguish normal from abnormal results and perform additional testing as needed
  • Document detailed technical reports for physician interpretation
  • Review studies with physicians and resolve discrepancies through additional testing
  • Administer neurodiagnostic procedures using appropriate protocols without direct supervision
  • Monitor test quality and manage resources prudently
  • Follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain a clean work area
  • Help coordinate patient scheduling, receive patient payments, review patient charges, and assist with office tasks
  • Maintain continuing education requirements and current neurodiagnostic proficiency
  • Perform sleep staging and event scoring according to AASM guidelines
  • Perform monthly Interscorer Reliability QA and reporting as needed
  • Troubleshoot polysomnographic and office equipment

Requirements


  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, or Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) in state of practice with Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS) credential

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • BLS Basic Life Support preferred upon hire and required before patient care

  • Polysomnography state licensure if applicable based upon state of practice; required if practicing in Virginia

  • At least one year of previous experience in neurophysiology or sleep disorders medicine (preferred)

  • Proficient with computers, sleep equipment, devices, and software

  • Accuracy with data entry and Microsoft Office

  • Comprehensive knowledge of guidelines pertaining to sleep medicine and testing

  • Analytical skills

  • Strategic thinking and planning
