Job summary

Jobtailor in Illinois is seeking a Polysomnographic Technician to support sleep lab operations. You will collect patient histories, prep and calibrate equipment, and help with PAP titration and sleep studies, following standard protocols.

The role requires an accredited polysomnography program with an associate degree, BLS, and either RPSGT or CPSGT with RPSGT within six months. Experience is preferred, and accuracy in data collection and reporting is essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in polysomnography from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an accredited polysomnographic program with emphasis on polysomnography or ASTEP program.
  • RPSGT required OR CPSGT with RPSGT within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a polysomnographic technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ordering supplies and helping with quality assurance.
  • Assist with scheduling PM Sleep Technicians.
  • Gather and review patient information, including histories, medications, procedure requests, and study protocols.
  • Explain procedures and orient patients to the sleep lab.
  • Prepare and calibrate testing equipment and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  • Follow protocols for MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, and other sleep studies.
  • Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values.
  • Perform polysomnographic data acquisition.
  • Document routine observations and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Follow “lights on” procedures to verify data integrity and complete data collection.
  • Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events.
  • Generate accurate reports.
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Perform routine equipment care, maintenance, and inventory evaluations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited polysomnographic program leading to an associate’s degree with emphasis on polysomnography.
  • Successful completion of an accredited polysomnographic program with emphasis on polysomnography or completion of ASTEP Program.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists required OR Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) upon hire with RPSGT obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a Polysomnographic Technician preferred.
