Job summary

Jobtailor in Tinley Park, IL, is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist to support sleep study procedures across the South Region Sleep Centers, with Tinley Park as the primary location. Qualifications

• Advanced training beyond High School from an accredited program.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers cert within 30 days.
• BRPT/ABSM/RST/RRT-SDS certifications within 3 years.
• No experience required.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and calibrate equipment for testing.
• Apply monitoring electrodes, bands, thermistors, and probes to patients.
• Prepare PAP mask fittings.
• Follow sleep procedures and document baseline values.
• Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and generating reports.
• Tabulate various physiological data and ensure data integrity.
• Implement patient-safety and therapeutic interventions (CPAP, BIPAP, oxygen).
• Assist with SV titrations, MSLT, MWT procedures.
• Perform data acquisition and monitor tracing quality.
• Explain testing process and educate physicians and patients on sleep medicines.
• Work between South Region Sleep Centers, Tinley Park as the primary location.

Job description

• Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing
• Select and apply monitoring electrodes, bands, thermistors, and probes to patients
• Prepare positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fittings
• Follow sleep procedures and document baseline physiological values
• Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and generating accurate reports
• Tabulate respiratory, cardiac, limb movement, arousal, and other clinical event data
• Implement patient-safety and therapeutic interventions, including CPAP, BIPAP, and oxygen administration
• Assist with SV titrations, AVAPS, MSLT, and MWT procedures
• Perform polysomnographic data acquisition and monitor tracing quality
• Follow wake procedures, repeat calibrations, verify data integrity, and instruct patients on questionnaires
• Set up video and audio monitoring apparatus
• Maintain, clean, troubleshoot, and monitor sleep-study equipment and supplies
• Schedule tests, explain the testing process, answer patient questions, and educate physicians and patients on sleep medicines
• Work between South Region Sleep Centers, with Tinley Park as the primary location

Requirements

• Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 30 days
• Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) registration issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) needs to be obtained within 3 years, or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) certification issued by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) needs to be obtained within 3 years, or Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialty (RRT-SDS) certification issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) needs to be obtained within 3 years
• No experience required
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Basic computer skills
• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care
• Ability to assess patient data and interpret information according to age-specific needs
• May drive between sites and be exposed to road hazards
• Ability to operate all equipment essential to performing the job
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, and kneel throughout the workday
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head
• Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance
• Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
• Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
• Ability to work with protective clothing around mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards
