The Supervisor promotes a high‑reliability culture, evidence‑based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and shared accountability for patient safety, employee engagement, service excellence, and continuous improvement. The Supervisor may provide hands‑on clinical support within the scope of licensure and demonstrated competency and acts on behalf of department leadership when delegated.

Maintains survey readiness, participates in tracers, investigates safety events and near misses, completes timely follow‑up, and implements sustainable corrective actions.

  • Sterile Processing and Surgical Instrument Oversight: Ensures effective coordination of decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, case‑cart preparation, and distribution of reusable medical devices. Monitors instrument quality, biological and chemical indicator processes, sterilization documentation, loaner instrumentation, immediate‑use steam sterilization practices, preventive maintenance, inventory levels, and instrument repair needs. Partners with Infection Prevention and perioperative leaders to resolve process deviations and protect instrument availability and patient safety.

  • Performance Improvement and Resource Stewardship: Tracks and reports operational and quality indicators such as first‑case on‑time starts, turnover time, delay reasons, staffing productivity, overtime, surgical site infection prevention measures, count discrepancies, sterilization quality, missing instruments, tray accuracy, and customer service concerns. Uses data to identify trends, lead improvement work, standardize processes, and support responsible labor, supply, equipment, and instrument utilization.

  • Collaboration, Education, and Leadership Coverage: Collaborates with the Senior Manager, other perioperative supervisors, physicians, anesthesia, nursing, SPD, Infection Prevention, Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities, and other partners to implement departmental and organizational priorities. Communicates policy, workflow, equipment, and practice changes; reinforces staff education; supports shared governance; and represents Surgery and SPD in meetings or committees as assigned.
