Registered Nurse, Perioperative Supervisor, Endo, IR & PAT

About City of Hope, City of Hope's mission is to make hope a reality for all touched by cancer and diabetes. Founded in 1913, City of Hope has grown into one of the largest and most advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the U.S., and one of the leading research centers for diabetes and other life‑threatening illnesses. City of Hope research has been the basis for numerous breakthrough cancer medicines, as well as human synthetic insulin and monoclonal antibodies. With an independent, National Cancer Institute‑designated comprehensive cancer center that is ranked top 5 in the nation for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report at its core, City of Hope’s uniquely integrated model spans cancer care, research and development, academics and training, and a broad philanthropy program that powers its work. City of Hope’s growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and cancer treatment centers and outpatient facilities in the Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix areas.

The Perioperative Supervisor provides day-to-day clinical, operational, and personnel leadership for Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology (IR), and Pre‑Anesthesia Testing (PAT). Reporting to the Senior Manager of Perioperative Services, the Supervisor translates departmental goals into reliable daily practice, coordinates staffing and workflow, and maintains a visible leadership presence across assigned areas. The role is accountable for safe procedural operations, timely pre‑procedure assessment and readiness, regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, staff performance, and prompt resolution of operational concerns.

This leader serves as the direct link among frontline staff, gastroenterologists, interventional radiologists, anesthesia professionals, APPs, diagnostic and support departments, and perioperative leadership. The Supervisor promotes a high‑reliability culture, evidence‑based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and shared accountability for patient safety, employee engagement, service excellence, and continuous improvement. The Supervisor may provide hands‑on clinical support within the scope of licensure and demonstrated competency and acts on behalf of department leadership when delegated.

The successful candidate:
  • Daily Operations, Scheduling, and Patient Flow: Directs daily operations for Endoscopy, IR, and PAT, including staffing deployment, procedure assignments, readiness huddles, add‑on and urgent cases, pre‑procedure clearance, preparation, recovery coordination, and communication of delays. Coordinates with physicians, anesthesia, diagnostic services, inpatient and ambulatory teams to promote safe throughput and continuity of care.
  • People Leadership and Workforce Management: Provides direct supervision, coaching, rounding, and performance feedback. Participates in recruitment, onboarding, competency validation, scheduling, timekeeping, attendance management, recognition, corrective action, evaluations, and professional development. Promotes psychological safety, teamwork, retention, and equitable application of standards.
  • Quality, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance: Monitors infection prevention, aseptic technique, medication safety, moderate sedation, procedural time‑outs, specimen handling, contrast and radiation safety, emergency preparedness, patient monitoring, recovery, discharge criteria, and documentation. Maintains survey readiness, investigates events and near misses, and implements sustainable corrective actions.
  • Service‑Line Clinical and Technical Oversight: Oversees endoscope pre‑cleaning, transport, leak testing, high‑level disinfection or sterilization, drying, storage, traceability, and adherence to manufacturers’ instructions for use. Supports IR readiness for image‑guided procedures, sedation, monitoring, contrast, emergency response, and supplies. Ensures PAT processes support complete assessment, medication review, testing, risk identification, escalation, optimization, education, and timely anesthesia or provider review.
  • Performance Improvement and Resource Stewardship: Tracks procedure volume, on‑time starts, utilization, cancellations, delays, PAT completion, incomplete testing, sedation and recovery events, endoscope reprocessing quality, infection prevention measures, productivity, overtime, supply utilization, and patient experience. Uses data to standardize processes and responsibly manage labor and resources.
  • Collaboration, Education, and Leadership Coverage: Collaborates with the Senior Manager, physicians, anesthesia professionals, APPs, Infection Prevention, Quality, Radiation Safety, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Cardiology, Supply Chain, and other partners. Communicates changes, reinforces education, represents assigned departments, and provides leadership coverage and after‑hours response as required.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Five (5) years of progressive nursing experience in perioperative, procedural, critical care, IR, endoscopy, preoperative, or pre‑anesthesia services, including at least two (2) years in a charge, lead, supervisory, or formal leadership role. Demonstrated procedural nursing experience is required.
  • Active RN license in Arizona or multistate license with Arizona practice privileges.
  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS
  • National specialty or nursing leadership certification required within twelve (12) months of hire if not held at appointment.
