Job summary

Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel, LA, is seeking an experienced RN Supervisor A to lead nursing operations within our 64-bed Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU), a Level 1 care facility serving incarcerated individuals with complex health needs.

The role requires Louisiana RN licensure (or equivalent), clinical leadership, and coordination of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care in a secure environment. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Louisiana RN license or temporary permit or multi-state license (NLC/eNLC) required.
• Three years of RN experience; or Bachelor's with two years; or Master's with two years; or Doctorate with one year.
• Current licensure must be verified per State Civil Service requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assumes shift responsibility for patient assignments and care of patients for assigned unit.
• Provides nursing care using the nursing process for inmates.
• Administers medications and treatments in a timely and compliant manner.
• Conducts nursing assessments via rounds and communicates with providers.
• Initiates and reviews the nursing plan of care and ensures therapies are carried out.
• Receives orders and ensures transmission to other units as needed.

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi‑state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following: Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Job Duties:

• Assumes shift responsibility for patient assignments and care of patients for assigned unit.
• Provides nursing care and utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the provision of direct patient care to Inmates.
• Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Conducts nursing assessments via nursing rounds and communicates with the provider regarding the patient's condition to ensure a timely and accurate disposition.
• Initiates and reviews nursing plan of care for all patients and ensures that treatments and therapies specified in the plans are carried out.
• Receives health care practitioner's instructions regarding patient care and ensure that orders are transmitted to other units as needed.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.

Compensation:

This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $39.12 per hour.

This position also offers premium pay: A rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.
