Qualifications

• Experience providing nursing care in a correctional or secured facility preferred.
• Ability to manage emergency care, trauma, chronic disease, wound care and mental health needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional nurse duties including medications, IVs and treatments under supervision.
• Develop and implement patient care plans for inmates in assigned units.
• Conduct regular rounds and document patient conditions and responses.
• Follow physician orders and relay instructions to other departments as needed.
• Educate patients on health, hygiene and self-administration of medications.

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.

Job Duties

• Performs professional nurse duties that may include administration of blood and blood components, I.V. medications, parenteral nutrition, central line therapy, etc., under the close supervision of a registered nurse of a higher level.
• Assists in development of nursing plan of care for patients in assigned units.
• Makes regular patient rounds to observe and assess patients' physical conditions and behaviors and records observations on patients' charts.
• Receives and fulfills physicians' instructions regarding patient care and transmits orders, as needed, to other departments.
• Assists physicians with patient examinations and records patients' mental and physical health histories.
• Assists in emergency code situations.
• Instructs and educates patients in health and hygiene procedures and in self- administration of prescribed medications.
• Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

• Registered Nurse 1 has an SER of $29.84 per hour
• Registered Nurse 2 has an SER of $31.93 per hour
• Registered Nurse 3 has an SER of $34.17 per hour
