Job summary

State of Louisiana, Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections – Corrections Services, Elayn Hunt Correctional Institute in St. Gabriel, LA, seeks an RN to provide professional nursing care to inmates in a 24-hour facility.

You will perform assessments, administer medications, participate in care planning, and respond to emergencies under supervision, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and compassionate care in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional nurse duties that may include administration of blood and blood components, I.V. medications, parenteral nutrition, central line therapy, etc., under the close supervision of a registered nurse of a higher level.
  • Assists in development of nursing plan of care for patients in assigned units.
  • Makes regular patient rounds to observe and assess patients' physical conditions and behaviors and records observations on patients' charts.
  • Receives and fulfills physicians' instructions regarding patient care and transmits orders, as needed, to other departments.
  • Assists physicians with patient examinations and records patients' mental and physical health histories.
  • Assists in emergency code situations.
  • Instructs and educates patients in health and hygiene procedures and in self- administration of prescribed medications.
  • Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Job Duties

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Registered Nurse 1 has an SER of $29.84 per hour
  • Registered Nurse 2 has an SER of $31.93 per hour
  • Registered Nurse 3 has an SER of $34.17 per hour

This position also offers premium pay……

A rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on level of experience.
