Dixon Correctional Institute is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the team in the Nursing Department as a Licensed Practical Nurse! Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Job Duties:
  • Implements selective aspects of the nursing care plan, i.e., comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc. under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.
  • Observes patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and reports significant changes.
  • Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.
  • Takes vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Transcribes physicians' orders and records medication and the patient's condition on the patient's charts and other records.
  • Receives and gives change of shift reports.
  • Requests stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned.
  • Administers CPR in emergency situations.
  • Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.
  • Gathers information about the patient's past and current physical and mental status.
Position-Specific Details
Appointment Type:

PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Compensation:

This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Licensed Practical Nurse 1 has an SER of $19.48 per hour
  • Licensed Practical Nurse 2 has an SER of $20.84 per hour
  • Licensed Practical Nurse 3 has an SER of $22.30 per hour

This position also offers premium pay……

A rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on the level of experience.
