Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Registered Nurse for the 2 East Surgical Stepdown unit. This high-acuity area handles postoperative care for Cardiothoracic, Vascular, and other surgeries, with potential for float to overflow as beds permit. The role emphasizes nursing judgment, patient education, and teamwork.

BSN preferred; Michigan RN license with BLS and ACLS for relevant departments is required. Shift runs 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with Full-time and Part-time options including alternating

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program eligible to sit for the NCLEX and become a licensed RN.
• BSN preferred; must agree to obtain BSN within five years of hire or transfer to an RN role.
• Current Michigan RN license and BLS; ACLS required for Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, Emergency.
• Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age-specific needs.
• Interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail essential.

Responsibilities

• Uses teach back methodology to educate patient and family.
• Actively works to prevent hospital-acquired conditions.

Registered Nurse

Department: Surgical Stepdown (PCU)

Location: Trinity Health Ann Arbor

Position Purpose:

2 East cares for high-acuity surgical patients who require frequent monitoring, multiple lines/tubes, and complex nursing care.

The 32-bed unit specializes in Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery. Additional Surgical Populations include General Surgery, Trauma, and Plastic Surgery.

2 East is a fast-paced, dynamic unit known for High volume and high patient turnover. Nurses will use constant clinical decision-making with diverse patient scenarios (including medicine overflow patients when beds permit).

This unit is a strong professional foundation for nurses aspiring to:

• ICU roles
• Emergency Department roles
• Other high-acuity specialties

Shifts Available:

7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Days

Status Available:

Full time, Part time Every Other Weekend and Every other Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-Time team members.

Required Qualifications:

Education

Graduation from a school of nursing that results in the ability of the graduate to sit for the NCLEX exam to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.

Licensure

• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• BLS.
• ACLS required for the following departments : Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, Emergency

Experience

• Graduation from accredited nursing program.
• Effective January 1, 2013 all new hires must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role.
• Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age specific needs
• Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities of job description.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care
