Job summary

The Ohio Department of Veterans Services operates the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, a 168-bed facility delivering nursing and memory care for veterans. As a nursing supervisor, you will lead direct care staff, ensure quality nursing programs, and collaborate with physicians and other professionals to maintain high standards of patient care.

Starting hourly pay is $44.38 with potential increases. The role offers a variable schedule, comprehensive health benefits, and a generous paid time off

Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio.
  • Minimum 24 months of RN experience.
  • 1 course or 3 months in counseling or interviewing.
  • 3 courses or 9 months in public relations.
  • 3 courses or 9 months in employee training & development.
  • 6 courses or 18 months in management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises direct care nursing staff and evaluates nursing care services.
  • Coordinates scheduling, assessments, planning and delivery of nursing with healthcare providers.
  • Provides direct professional nursing care and administers medications during staffing gaps.

JOB TITLE JOB DETAILS:
  • Starting Hourly Pay: $44.38 with multiple pay increases over your first years of service
  • Variable Schedule

  • OPERS retirement - The employee contributes 10% of their salary towards their retirement. The employer contributes an amount equal to 14% of the employee’s salary.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises direct care nursing staff (e.g., completes & signs performance evaluations & handles disciplinary issues, provides counseling, assigns & monitors work, recruits, interviews & recommends applicants for hire; trains & orients new employees; develops & provides in-service training); assists in planning, directing & evaluating all nursing care services; establishes & implements nursing care programs; reviews & updates current programs; serves as nursing liaison with other units to ensure services are coordinated; directs record keeping & reporting procedures; coordinates nursing services with other resident services; conducts &/or attends health care meetings; provides leadership for quality assurance functions & requisitions medical supplies or equipment; communicates with resident families, physicians & specialists; investigates care/abuse complaints
  • Coordinates scheduling, assessments, planning, evaluation & delivery of all nursing with appropriate healthcare providers; develops, schedules, conducts & monitors in-service training programs; attends meetings (e.g., Utilization Review & Interdisciplinary Team Meetings); attends workshops & seminars; writes & reviews reports; coordinates staffing schedules, approves/disapproves leave requests in absence of staffing coordinator (e.g., conducts pick-a-post, manages overtime, mandates overtime to meet staffing requirements)
  • Provides direct professional nursing care to patients; administers emergency care & first aid; conducts nursing rounds & assesses patients & administers medications during absence of nursing staff

REQUIREMENTS

Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code; 24 mos. exp. as registered nurse; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in counseling; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing; 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in public relations; 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in employee training & development; 6 courses or 18 mos. exp. in management.

  • Or 6 mos. exp. as Nurse 2, 65513.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
