Job Summary
Triages incoming referrals for appropriateness and coordinates a multidisciplinary visit to include an interventional radiology physician assistant, interventional radiologist and/or oncologist. Assists in obtaining all diagnostic and other pertinent patient information prior to visit and arranges for support services to assist in providing consultation and management of a variety of disease processes. Ensures that access to the interventional radiologist for the referring physician and patient is both timely and highly efficient. Coordinates the multidisciplinary team for specific patient populations. Functions as a clinical patient and community resource, educator, and consultant. Assist in providing the patient through expedited quality care in an efficient manner.Essential Functions

Serves as a resource for regional referring physicians regarding procedures including but not excluded to: Vertebroplasty, Sacroplasty, TIPS (trans jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt), Peritoneal drains, Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiogram with biliary tube/stent placement, Liver Directed Therapies (Y90, TAVE, microwave) Ablation Therapy for liver, lung, bone and renal lesions, Cryotherapy, Cyst ablation, UAE (uterine artery embolization), gonadal vein embolization. Sclerotherapy, AVM vein sampling, and STAR Ablation. Triages new and potential referrals to the Interventional Radiologist. Serves as a liaison between multidisciplinary team, referring physicians, support staff, and patients. Coordinates patients visit with all members of the team to ensure patient is seen within an appropriate time period after receiving referral.Provides hand-on clinical support to physicians, patients, and families ensuring all needs are met. Arranges for follow-up care including scheduling of tests / procedures, and physician office visits. Provides education to patient and families regarding diagnosis, treatment and diagnostic tests required. Provides educational resources for patient. Communicating signs/symptoms of exacerbation of disease or maladaptation to illness to the appropriate members of the healthcare team.Prepares all relevant patient information including tests/procedure results, history & physical documentation, and other related documents for presentation at consultation visit and/or procedure visit as appropriate. Makes self-available to provide emotional support to patient/family as needed.Triages calls from referring Health Care Providers and/or patients regarding problems/complications from procedures performed by the radiologists.
Assists with obtaining all required physician notes and diagnostic information such as pathology reports, laboratory results, radiology films, H&P's in preparation for patient visit. Schedules any tests required prior to patient being seen in/by Interventional radiology and arranges to have results available on the day of visit. The nurse navigators may be asked to help with other areas within radiology services as needed and time allows.
Serves as the Research Coordinator for Research studies performed in interventional radiology. This includes ensuring that all involved physicians and staff are current on all educational requirements by the IRB, all appropriate information is recorded properly, and that patient has met all requirements of the study.
Attends weekly MDC GI conference taking IR referrals to the IR doctor to develop a treatment plan
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's degreein Nursing
Experience - Two (2) years Nursing experience
In Lieu Of
In lieu of the BSN requirement above, a nursing diploma or an associate degree in nursing may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four years.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Current South Carolina R.N. License
Certification in Oncology Nursing and/or Imaging Nursing preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
Proficient computer skills (spreadsheets)
Data entry skills
Interventional Radiology knowledge of Interventional Radiology procedures preferred
Knowledge of medical research preferred
