Registered Nurse (RN), Emergency Department

Schedule: 12‑hour varied shifts, minimum of 2 shifts per month plus potential holidays
Overview
Join the Emergency Department team at UP Health System – Portage to provide compassionate, patient‑centered care in urgent situations. Your expertise will support high‑quality treatment and contribute to the safety and responsiveness of the department.
Responsibilities
- Cares for patients and administers medications in accordance with established best practices, competencies and training.
- Accurately documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patients and/or families and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of patients.
- Contributes to maintaining a pleasant, safe, and orderly patient environment.
- Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information, disclosing only information necessary to perform job functions.
- When performing sitter duties, maintains constant visual observation of the patient, never leaving the patient alone or out of sight unless relieved by another staff member, and documents observations with accuracy and legibility.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Current Michigan RN license (or attains within 90 days of hire).
- Associate degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Minimum 1 year of medical‑surgical experience.
- Preferred minimum 1 year of emergency department or critical care experience.
- ACLS, PALS, TNCC certification within 6 months of hire.
- Annual influenza vaccination or documented declination.
