Job summary

Garden State Surgical Center seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to support both Pre-Operative and PACU functions in an ambulatory surgery setting. The role emphasizes assessing patients, preparing them for surgery, and monitoring recovery with emphasis on safety and patient education.

The successful candidate will have NJ RN licensure, BLS, ACLS, and at least two years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in perioperative care, with strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate

Garden State Surgical Center is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly organized Registered Nurse (RN) to join our ambulatory surgery center team in a dual-role capacity supporting both Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) functions. The ideal candidate is committed to delivering exceptional patient care, ensuring patient safety, and creating a positive surgical experience from admission through discharge.

Position Summary

The Pre-Op/PACU RN is responsible for assessing, preparing, monitoring, and educating patients undergoing outpatient surgical procedures. This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Pre-Operative Duties

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and review medical histories.
• Verify surgical consents, physician orders, and preoperative testing.
• Initiate IV access and administer medications as ordered.
• Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and postoperative expectations.
• Ensure patient readiness for surgery and collaborate with the surgical team to maintain efficient patient flow.

PACU Duties

• Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
• Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, and recovery status.
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered.Recognize and respond appropriately to postoperative complications.
• Provide discharge instructions and education to patients and caregivers.
• Ensure patients meet discharge criteria prior to release.

Qualifications

• Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification required or ability to obtain within established timeframe.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Previous Pre-Op, PACU, critical care, emergency department, or ambulatory surgery experience preferred.
• Strong assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting.
• Knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional patient care standards.
