Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for a 13‑week travel assignment. The RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering comprehensive, patient‑centered nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

The PICU provides specialized care for patients across multiple pediatric specialties, including medical, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, and pulmonary conditions. The unit also serves as a designated pediatric liver, kidney, and bone marrow transplant center, caring for patients with congenital and complex multi‑organ conditions requiring advanced critical care interventions.

The ideal candidate is a skilled critical care nurse with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication abilities, and experience managing high‑acuity pediatric patients in a fast‑paced Level I Trauma environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments and develop, implement, evaluate, and update individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor and care for mechanically ventilated and intubated pediatric patients.
  • Coordinate patient care, discharge planning, and transitions of care across the healthcare continuum.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and recovery.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary care teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Safely delegate patient care responsibilities based on patient acuity, staff competency, and available resources.
  • Serve as a mentor and preceptor while supporting professional nursing practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to organizational policies and professional nursing standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent travel RN experience.
  • Experience providing care in a Level I Trauma setting.
  • Experience caring for intubated and mechanically ventilated pediatric patients.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient care coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience caring for pediatric solid organ transplant patients.
  • CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification.
  • TCRN (Trauma Certified Registered Nurse) or CTCN certification, if applicable.
Assignment Details
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week
  • Shift: Rotating Days/Nights (7:00 AM‑7:30 PM and 7:00 PM‑7:30 AM)
  • Every third weekend required.
  • Floating to other units as needed based on staffing requirements.
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of an ECG examination during orientation is required. Candidates must pass the exam to remain eligible for the assignment.
